HealthNET Highlight: Sandra Murray
Welcome to the first in our series of HealthNET Highlights, where we spotlight a HealthNET employee in an effort to provide an inside look at our team members' vast experience and background.
HealthNET is pleased to introduce Sandra (Sandy) Murray, who has over 20 years of experience as a project manager for EHR system implementations and optimization, including third party application integrations and conversions.
Sandy joined the HealthNET family in 2011 and to date, her work has involved everything from managing hospital mergers and acquisitions to overseeing technical dress rehearsals (including being one of the first users of Epic’s TDR tool).
Successes and Challenges
Sandy is the last person who will brag about her accomplishments, so we’ll do it for her: she successfully managed an EHR implementation that included a refund of over $1 million and a Good Install Discount of over $250,000.
When asked about one of the biggest challenges during her career, Sandy says it involved a full-scale Epic implementation for a multi-facility system.
“It was an intense project, but with proper project management oversight, it was successful. The same techniques can be applied to other large or small-scale projects,” Sandy said.
On Learning & Imparting Knowledge
Sandy’s interest in technology started with her first PC and she has been fascinated with it ever since. She recalls her first programming job and how she got up to speed by reading every manual she could get her hands on, in addition to talking to the resident expert to learn more.
Now that the shoe is on the other foot, with Sandy being the onsite technical expert, she works to make sure everyone understands the scope of a project by communicating with staff in terms that are relevant to their particular profession, whether they be a program analyst or CIO.
When we asked Sandy what she enjoys best about her profession, she had this to say:
“Consulting is exciting and challenging - there is no "routine" job and there is always some new way to apply my experience to analyze and troubleshoot the best solutions for clients and their projects.”
